Proposed new European chemical policy - REACH

The EU Parliament, Council and Commission have a huge collective responsibility to ensure that the final REACH proposals are workable and will ensure improved safety whilst avoiding an unjustified cost burden on the speciality chemicals industry. There is a risk that speciality polymer compounding and of manufacturing industries relying on plastics and textiles could be driven out of Europe. EFRA is currently actively preparing for the implementation of REACH, establishing lists of chemicals for registration and identifying potential "consortia" of manufacturers, defining information to be collected (product properties, studies, data on uses and applications) and working with downstream user industries to establish the necessary information systems.
