EU policymakers and stakeholders exchange views on fire safety in buildings
On Tuesday 8 October, Flame Retardants Europe participated in a roundtable discussion in the European Parliament on fire safety in buildings, organized by the Modern Building Alliance (alliance of trade associations and companies representing plastic industry in the construction sector), together with MEP Theresa Griffin (S&D, UK) and MEP Pernille Weiss (EPP, DK). The meeting gathered other Members of the European Parliament, the European Commission (DG GROW & DG JUST) and key stakeholders representing fire services, academics and industries who discussed the role and actions of the EU in this area. Discussions acknowledged that any fire safety strategy should holistically consider the role of prevention, detection, early suppression, evacuation, compartmentation, structural safety and fire-fighting.
This event gives a glimpse of the upcoming discussions that will take place during the very first European Fire Safety Week organised by the European Fire Safety Alliance from the 18th to the 21st November 2019. During that week, Flame Retardants Europe, together with the Fire Service Academy (IFV), will organise a seminar focused on fire safety in furniture. This seminar will provide an overview of the technologies available to make our furniture fire-safe and will frame the discussion over the need for improved fire safety standards and regulations across Europe.
